Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, there is a sense of excitement amongst the drivers set to challenge Lewis Hamilton for his world title and Fernando Alonso feels the opening race of the season is the first real test.
Pre-season testing in Catalonia was positive for the Spanish driver, he finally appears to have a reliable car after a disastrous 2017 season.
“Australia is the first real test and we have to work all weekend to get ourselves ready,” he explained.
“It’s finally time to race, I have a busy season ahead of me.
“I’m really excited to get behind the wheel of the MCL33 in the first race of the year.”
Following the breakdown in relations with Honda, McLaren’s engine is produced by Renault for the 2018 season, and the former World Champion has confidence in the car.
“Our car showed a lot of potential in the winter tests, although we still have a lot to work on,” he admitted.
“We already have a good amount of information about the parts and how they work together.
“It’s impossible to make any kind of prediction for the season, Melbourne is a great circuit and I’m excited to see what we can do.” he concluded.
