Cricket: Nigeria’s Women Cricket Team to Face Rwanda in International Bilateral Series

Nigeria’s women cricket team will face Rwanda in the return leg of the bilateral series in Kigali from September 2nd to 8th.

Earlier in January, Nigeria defeated Rwanda 3-2 after five matches at the Abuja National Stadium in the first leg of the bilateral tour

Ahead of the encounter, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced the final list of fourteen cricketers that will represent the country following three (3) weeks of intense camping in Lagos State where the NCF had invited twenty-four (24) female players to camp.

Under the watchful eyes of newly appointed coach Mr Leonard Onome Oghenekevwe, ten players were dropped from the initial twenty-four invited to camp after a couple of trial matches.

After the trials, four new players have found their way into the national team setting including Edo State’s Omoye Asika – a left-handed batting all-rounder, Akwa Ibom’s duo of Esther Sandy and Salome Sunday – discovered after her team won gold at the 2017 National Youth Games and Kwara State’s Kehinde Abdulquadri.

Long-serving and experienced players like Samantha Agazuma and Agatha Obulor will lead the team as Captain and Vice-Captain respectively while Blessing Etim, Fyneface Fate and Mary Desmond among others have also been included in the squad.

The team will reconvene on Saturday 24 August 2019 ahead of their trip to Kigali.
