Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has claimed he can only select quality players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Peseiro included only one local player, Olorunleke Ojo in his final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Portuguese has been widely criticised for neglecting home-based players since he took charge of the Super Eagles.

The gaffer stated that the few players he invited in the past were not ready to stay in the country.

“I have not said that no player in the local league can play for the Super Eagles, but I need to see if you have the qualities and capacities to play,” Peseiro told a press conference in Abidjan.

“Ojo is in the team, but if I see other players with quality, I will invite them. We coaches are not stupid.”
