Abu Azeez Shortlisted For Beach Soccer Player Of The Year

Nigerian footballer Abu Azeez has been nominated, along with 49 others, for the Beach Soccer Best Player of the Year award.

‘Beach Soccer Worldwide’, a well respected entity behind the creation and growth of Beach Soccer, and also recognised by world football governing body FIFA, released the 50-man shortlist on Monday.

The final 50-man list was drawn up by Beach Soccer Worldwide and the Technical Study Group from this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in The Bahamas.

Abu Azeez who is currently a player of Shooting Stars Sports Club, a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, has been a part of the Nigerian Beach Soccer team for nine years. Azeez finished highest goal scorer at the 2013 Africa Nations Cup/World Cup qualifiers in Morocco. He was also the highest goalscorer two years later in Seychelles.

His goal against Mexico at the 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas was nominated alongside 11 others for the Goal of the Tournament. He missed out of the award.

Both the Best Player of the Year and Best Coach of the Year awards will be handed out on November 4 at the Beach Soccer Stars Night in Dubai.

The award is based on votes by coaches and captains of all national teams.
