Enyimba coach Usman Abd’Allah has said he expects the reigning Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions to do ‘very well’ in the CAF Champions League as well as in the domestic league in the upcoming season.
The 2-time CAF Champions League winners will open their campaign in the competition this weekend against Burkina Faso league kings, Rahimo FC away from home, as they also hope to successfully defend the NPFL title they won for a record 8th time last season.
In a chat with busybuddiesng.com, the former Kano Pillars assistant coach stated that winning this season’s CAF Champions League – for a third time in the club’s history – is not beyond the People’s Elephant.
“At this moment, we want to do well as we did in the league, if possible, to do much better than we did last season,” the soft-spoken tactician said.
“And in the continent, we always want to do better. We are looking forward to see that we do very, very well. Doing very well can be winning the CAF Champions League or something like that.
“But at this time, we are just starting, and I don’t normally talk about something like that until we reach the target of the team. But at this moment, we are just trying to win this first match and try to qualify for the group stage. We will take it one game at a time.
“The most important thing is to get out of this knockout stages and go to the group stage, then, we sit down together and put a target for the team,” Abd’Allah, who led Enyimba to the semi-finals of last year’s CAF Confederation Cup, said.
