NPFL: MFM Defender Akpudje Plots Plateau United Downfall (AUDIO)

MFM FC defender Joshua Akpudje says they are not intimidated by the league position of Sunday’s opponents Plateau United and would go all out for victory because “no one comes to take our points here in Lagos”.

Plateau United on 28 points and top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on goals difference, visit the Agege Stadium for a Matchday 17 encounter against 8th-placed MFM FC who have 22 points having played a game less.

But despite the disparity in their positions on the log, the 21-year-old centre-half says the league leaders will face the same fate as Akwa United who also fell when they visited Lagos.

” The guys are good to go. They never think about the opponent’s reputation or anything because for us to beat Akwa United here, we can beat any best team in NPFL,” he told busybuddiesng.com ahead of the encounter.

“And we’re just good to go, try to think about the game and try to give our best. I know Plateau are a good team and a good side, but no one comes to take our points here in Lagos. So, we’re ready to give them all we can give, give them all the best, and, go for a win and not for a draw.”

Akpudje had a barnstorming game the last time MFM hosted a league game scoring all three goals as they beat Jigawa Golden Stars 2-1 on Matchday 15.

And the defender who was rested by coach Tony Bolus for the 2-1 defeat at Wikki Tourists on the Matchday 16 understands that expectations may have been raised due to his goalscoring heroics last time out but says fans shouldn’t expect more of the same.

Akpudje says his priority against Plateau United is to focus on “normal football” ensuring a clean sheet and leading from the back to drive his team to victory.

“I know the fans are expecting a lot, but that should not be my priority mine is just to play my normal football, and to keep my team in a good shape, not to concede, and try to win the game for my team, and try to play the best of the game.”
