Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has hinted he will welcome a permanent move to Leganes where he is currently on loan from Chelsea in a bid to play regular football.
The 25-year-old, who is yet to represent his parent-club Chelsea in an official game since joining them in 2012, has suffered loan spells with ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa, Alanyanspor and now, Leganes, where he is enjoying regular football.
The 2013 AFCON winner says he would rather remain in Spain than sit on the bench at Chelsea.
“Chelsea have done a lot [for me]; they’ve practically made me who I am today because of the opportunity they’ve given to me,” Omeruo stated.
“But for me now, I’ve gotten this chance to stay in the Spanish league, and If I can stay, I will stay. But we will see how it goes at the end of the season.
“But I would not go back [to Chelsea] and sit on the bench, that’s for sure. I have to be playing. So if my regular time means me staying in Spain, I will stay in Spain,” the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star said.
Leganes are currently placed 15th on the LaLiga log with 23 points from 21 matches, and Omeruo is hoping his struggling side escapes the drop.
“Right now my team is down. So we have to win games; we have to make sure we come out of that relegation zone.”
