Loftus-Cheek Scores First Career Hat-Trick as Chelsea Cruise Past BATE

Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored three goals to dispatch BATE Borisov in Chelsea’s Europa League action on Thursday.

In only his second start of the season, the 22 year old gave a stellar performance at Stamford Bridge which produced his first goals in European competition. Loftus-Cheek’s hat-trick was the first in the Europa League since Ciro Immobile’s for Lazio last season against Steaua Bucharest.

His first goal against the Belarusian side occurred just two minutes after kickoff when he latched onto Zappacosta’s cross from the right flank. Six minutes later he got his second of the night beating teammate Olivier Giroud for a close-range tap-in in front of the net.

Loftus-Cheek sealed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute with a brilliant shot into the bottom-left corner of Denis Shcherbitski’s net.

With victory almost assured, Chelsea relaxed and allowed gave BATE the opportunity to create some chances in the late stages of the match and BATE got the chance to pull one back in the 79th minute off a set-piece cross from Igor Stasevich, which was converted to a goal by Aleksey Rios.
