Eagles Pay For Shoddy First Half Performance Against England With Defeat

The Super Eagles of Nigeria rued their unimpressive first half performance against the Three Lions of England in their international friendly match at the Wembley Stadium following a 2-1 defeat in what was a 2018 Russia FIFA World Cup warm up clash.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill capitalised on some uncertain defending from the Nigerians to give the hosts a 7th minute lead before star man and team captain Harry Kane added a second goal in the first half.

Eagles coach Gernot Rohr made several changes at the start of the second half and that proved to spark his team into life with Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi pulling a goal back after former Watford striker Orion Ighalo had hit the post but Gareth Southgate’s side kept the advantage for the rest of the game to secure victory.

In the end, Gernot Rohr and his wards paid for a lacklustre performance with the defeat which takes the Super Eagles’ winless run to four games against the 1966 World Cup winners.
