French Open (Recap): Serena Williams Renew Sharapova Rivalry After 3rd Round Win

Former world number one Serena Williams will renew her rivalry with Maria Sharapova in the 4th round at the ongoing French Open tournament.

Both players will meet on Monday to battle it out for a place in the quarterfinals.

3-time champion Serena Williams will start as heavy favourites having won 19 of their previous 21 meetings.

On her forthcoming match with Serena Williams on Monday, Sharapova said: “Any time you play against Serena you know what you’re up against.”

“You know the challenge that is upon you. You know, despite the record that I have against her, I always look forward to coming out on the court and competing against the best player.

“I think there is a lot of things in her game that she’s done much better than I have. Numbers don’t lie.”

On her part, Serena Williams talked about the one-sided win over Georges. In her word, she said: “It’s really special to be here again.”

“This time last year I was pregnant and I was having a tough time and then I had a tough birth so every match at this stage of my return is a bonus.” she added.
