Team Nigeria will face Slovakia in the quarterfinals of the second division of the 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Halmstad, Sweden, after seeing off Spain 3-1 in their last 16 clash played on Thursday.
The quarter of Segun Toriola, Aruna Quadri, Bode Abiodun and Omotayo Olajide finished had earlier finished second in Group F behind Slovakia with nine points thereby setting up a date with Spain who finished third in their group.
Portugal-based Aruna defeated Spanish opposition Machado Carlos 3-0 to win the first game before veteran Toriola lost 3-1 to Robles Alvaro to level the tie at 1-1.
Abiodun beat Vilchez Miguel 3-0 to win the third game and put Nigeria 2-1 up before Quadri wrapped up a quarterfinal slot for his team by beating Robles 3-1 in the fourth game.
Nigeria and Slovakia were in the same group in the preliminary rounds with the Slovaks inflicting the team’s only loss (1-3 to Slovakia) in the group stages on them.
