Enyimba, Akwa United Through To CAFCC Playoff Round

Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC), Enyimba and Akwa United, have qualified for the playoff stage of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Enyimba aided by two goals from Chinonso Okonkwo defeated Energie of Benin Republic 3-2 at home for a 5-2 aggregate scoreline having won the away leg 2-0.

Akwa United, however, needed penalties to see of Al Ittihad of Libya with the two teams playing out a 1-1 aggregate scoreline.

The Promise Keepers had lost the 1st leg in Libya 1-0 and needed to score to stay in the competition.

They did just that with Aniekeme Asuquo getting the goal for them at the Nest of Champions in Uyo on Sunday and that was how it stayed prompting the dreaded penalty shootouts.

Akwa United thereafter progressed into the playoff round with a 3-2 penalty win thanks to goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke’s brilliance.

The team will now join other Nigerian teams like Plateau United, MFM and Enyimba in the draw for the next stage later this week.
