Premier League Transfer Window To Close Before Start Of Season From Next Summer

Premier League clubs have voted to close the summer transfer window before the start of the season as from next year.

The vote came with respect to complaints from some Premier League managers, who claim the current format which allow players to move when the season has already started causes disruptions to their squad and preparation towards the new season.

As from the 2018/2019 season, the summer transfer window will now close at 17:00 BST on the Thursday before the first game of the Premier League season.

However, clubs can still sell players to other leagues until the European summer transfer window closes on 31 of August.

Reports suggest that 14 Premier League clubs voted in favour of the new format, while 5 voted against with 1 abstention.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has been one of the advocates of the new rule, saying: “It’s important that we close all that stuff before the championship starts,”

“Players have no clarity. Are they in? Are they out? Will they be tapped up on the afternoon of a game? It’s not the way to work.” he added.
