Dortmund CEO Watzke Slams Milan Over Aubameyang Pursuit

Borussia Dortmund’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hans-Joachim Watzke, has slammed Italian giants AC Milan over their pursuit of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang adding that they showed a ‘lack of respect’ towards the club.

2015 African footballer of the year Aubameyang has been linked with several European clubs this summer. Clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, AC Milan in addition to being linked with the Chinese Super League.

Speaking to reporters about AC Milan CEO Marco Fassone’s public admission that Aubameyang is a club target, Watzke said: “Sometimes Borussia Dortmund have to plan strategies.”

“It can’t be that managers of other clubs just say, ‘Oh well we would like to have this kind of player’.

“Those conditions, seen from AC Milan, show a lack of respect.” he added.

Watzke also pointed out that the Gabonese striker is happy at the club amidst the transfer links. He said: “We were in continuous negotiations with his agent and therefore with him as well. This was an open communication between us all the time.”

“We had a meeting earlier. There is no dissent and I think we came towards Auba quite a lot because of his achievements and because he is an outstanding person.

“Obviously he had flirted with the idea of doing something else, which is correct, but I think that he is happy with us, which you saw at the AC Milan game.

“He feels good within the team and within the club. We feel good with him being part of the club. So there are no problems.” he concluded.
