2022 FIFA WCQ: Awaziem Eyes Clean Sheet Against Liberia (AUDIO)

Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem says the team’s defensive line is gunning for a clean sheet in their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Liberia at the Grande Stad de Tanger on Saturday.

The Eagles, who lead Group C on nine points have kept clean sheets in two of their four games in the qualifying series including against the Lone Star in a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture in Lagos.

The 24-year-old Awaziem who is currently at Turkish side Alanyaspor on loan from Boavista FC would love to increase that number to three clean sheets and says he’ll do his utmost to ensure a shutout if selected to start.

“Basically as a defender you always want to get a clean sheet,” Awaziem told NFF media following Friday’s training session.

“I hope we work together behind, as a team, and try to get a clean sheet if I get a start. I’m going to give my best, to help as well not to [give up] a goal.”

Nigeria need four points from their final two games against Liberia and Cape Verde to seal the sole ticket to the final, two-legged qualifying round next March.
