2021 AFCON: Squirrels Poised To Upset Eagles in Uyo

The Senior Men’s National Team of Benin Republic are poised to upset 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Bronze Medalists, Nigeria when both sides meet in an AFCON 2021 Qualifier crunch tie in Uyo Wednesday.

The Squirrels of Benin Republic arrived Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital at about 4:00pm and commenced training later in the evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

The Beninioise delegation consist of twenty-three players and a handful of officials.

The encounter which is a Match Day One fixture of AFCON 2021 Qualification Series will kick-off by 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 13, at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Coach of the Francophone side, Michel Dussuyer will have to do without the experienced duo of both Goalkeeper Saturnin Allagbe and Eupen of Belgium’s Olivier Verdon who have been respectively forced out of the contest due to injury and suspension.

Michel believes his side are capable of giving the Eagles a good run for their money.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were drawn alongside Benin Republic, Lesotho and Sierra Leone in Group L and will hope to avoid a repeat of their matchday 1 omen at the last AFCON Qualifiers in which they lost to South Africa at the same venue before going on to pick a ticket with a match at hand and eventually finishing off at the Finals in Egypt with Bronze.
