2019 NUGA: LOC Fix Date For Competition in UNILAG

The University of Lagos has announced that the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 26th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) to be hosted by the institution will be meeting on Thursday, March 14 at the University’s Senate building.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe said the meeting which would have the chairman of the LOC Dr. John Momoh and the Secretary of the 2019 NUGA Organising Committee Professor Joseph Awoyinfa in attendance will take stock of preparations and streamline efforts to ensure a successful hosting of the games.

Part of the meeting’s agenda will also be to set a definite date for the event which had been fixed tentatively for November 27 – December 8 but which is now uncertain following the long-term strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

UNILAG won the rights to host the sporting competition for undergraduates for a fourth time after seeing off competition from the University of Jos in 2017. The University set up 14 sub-committees to ensure a smooth planning process for the 103 Universities that have so far indicated interest to participate in the games.

The University says it has already upgraded a number of facilities meant for the games to “world class standards” including completing an “international swimming pool with timing facilities”.

The 2017 NUGA was hosted by the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi.
