Super Falcons Set For Cyprus Women’s Cup in 2019

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will compete at an invitational tournament for women national teams known as the Cyprus Women’s Cup (CWC) from February 25 to 7 March 2019 in Larnaca, Cyprus in preparation for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Falcons Coach, Thomas Dennerby is a noted fan of the annual invitational tourney and the team’s participation comes on the back of the President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick’s promise to approve Dennerby’s World Cup plans and give the Super Falcons “abetter preparation than the Super Eagles going to the World Cup”.

The 2018 Women African Cup of Nations champions who will be making their debut at the12-nation invitational tourney have been drawn against Belgium, Austria and Slovakia in Group C.

Other teams taking part in the tournament include 2018 AWCON runners-up South Africa, who have been drawn in Group A alongside Korea Republic, Finland and the Czech Republic.

Hungary, Italy, Mexico and Thailand makeup the rest of the competing nations in Group B.

Four of the twelve teams confirmed for the tournament will be competing at the World Cup finals in France. They include South Africa, Nigeria, Italy, and Thailand.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group A against host nation France, Norway and the Korea Republic for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
