Spanish champions Real Madrid and surprise title challengers Valencia have closed the gap on leaders Barcelona after they secured wins over Sevilla and Celta Vigo.
Real thrashed Sevilla 5-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu courtesy first half goals from Nacho Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Toni Kroos and Achraaf Hakimi to move within five points of Barcelona.
Valencia had a more difficult win in their quest to close in on the leaders after they needed a late penalty from Dani Parejo to secure a 2-1 home win over Celta Vigo.
Simone Zaza’s first half opener was cancelled out by Spanish international striker Iago Aspas just after the interval before Parejo tucked away the late penalty to move his side to within two points of Barcelona.
