Ogenyi Onazi Secures Move Away From Trabzonspor

Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has signed for Turkish Super Lig side Denislispor on an undisclosed deal from Trabzonspor according to media reports in Turkey.

The 27-year-old former Lazio defensive midfielder was reportedly released by Trabzonspor following a devastating injury to his Achilles tendon which kept him out for a year.

Onazi had been a mainstay of the Super Eagles where he was vice-captain and with whom he won the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

He, however, has failed to add to his 51 caps after the 2018 World Cup and was repeatedly overlooked by Gernot Rohr before his injury.

In an interesting twist, Onazi could make his debut for Mehmet Özdilek’s side away at former club Trabzonspor who they face in the round of 16 in the Turkish Cup on Thursday.

That could see him come face-to-face with compatriot and former international teammate Mikel Obi.
