NPFL: Rivers Utd’s Adetunji Returns To Haunt Former Side Enyimba

Debutant Sunday Adetunji scored against former side Enyimba to hand Rivers United all three points in a rescheduled 2020-21 NPFL matchday 11 encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

Former Abia Warriors striker Adetunji featured for the Aba Elephants in 2018 and was on the books of Plateau United this season before terminating his contract to sign with Rivers United.

And making his full debut for Stanley Eguma’s side, Adetunji got his Rivers United career off to an auspicious start with the only goal of the game to edge out his former employers.

With the game still goalless and full time fast approaching, the beanpole forward headed home Kazie Enyinnaya’s cross in the 85th-minute to settle the tie.

Former Enyimba stalwarts Theophilus Afelokhai and Ifeanyi Anaemena also returned after long internal suspensions to face their former team.

The win lifts Eguma’s side to fourth in the table with 32 points while Enyimba who still have three games in hand are two points away in seventh.
