NPFL 21: Nwagua Winner Lifts 10-man Pillars Past Rivers United

Striker Nyima Nwagua scored the only goal as Kano Pillars kept their excellent home record intact with a narrow 1-0 win over Rivers United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in the concluding fixture of the 2020-21 NPFL matchday six on Wednesday.

Nwagua’s goal, his second of the campaign, came in the 19th minute and proved enough for Sai Masu Gida who move up to fifth on the log with the win.

The home side were reduced to ten men when Abbas Rabiu got a straight red card for deliberately handling the ball in the 51st minute but the visitors still couldn’t breach Pillars’ rear guard and they have now not conceded a goal at home this season.

Rivers United would have gone top with a win but a second defeat of the season, and a second straight on the road means they stay second, level with Enyimba on 12 points, two points off leaders Nasarawa United.
