NNL Postpones AGM, Kick-off Date Uncertain

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has postponed its 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and draw that would have heralded the start of the 2019 season due to the inability of certain clubs to complete their registration in time for the new season.

The AGM and draw will now hold on Wednesday, 20th March, 2019 although there is no change in venue with the meeting still slated for the Brookville Hotel and Suites in the Gaduwa district of Abuja.

The Chief Operating Officer of the NNL Mr. Lawrence Katken said the failure of some clubs for register on time “makes it practically impossible to go ahead with the AGM/Draw fixed for Wednesday 6th of this month”.

He further added that “since the official draw will be carried out, we do not want to work in assumption or speculation on the number of clubs that will participate in the new season”.

Mr. Katken advised clubs yet to register with the NNL for the 2019 season to do so before Friday,15th March, 2019 failing which the draws for the 2019 season will be held for only registered clubs.

The NNL AGM is expected to approve a kickoff date for the 2018/2019 season with a decision expected to be made about league format for the new season. League fixtures and group pairings are also expected to be drawn at the AGM.

The NNL had adopted an abridged format featuring four groups of ten (10) clubs each in the 2017/2018 season with the winners and promoted sides decided by a ‘Super 8’ playoff between the top eight teams at the end of the season.
