Mahrez Cleared To Return To Manchester City Training After Ankle Injury Scare

Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez has been cleared to return to training later this week despite suffering an ankle injury against German champions Bayern Munich in a club friendly in Miami over the weekend.

The 27-year-old sustained the injury and was subsequently substituted in the first half of the game which Manchester City won 3-2 after a tackle from Chris Richards.

His injury status was revealed via a statement from the Premier League champions on Monday afternoon.

According to the Citizens, Mahrez will return to training later this week and could likely feature in Sunday’s Community Shield clash with FA Cup Champions.

The statement said that: “A scan has revealed no significant damage.” and that he “could be available for selection for this weekend’s Community Shield against Chelsea.”

Riyad Mahrez secured his dream move to Manchester City from Leicester City earlier this summer for a club-record fee of £60m thus becoming their first signing of the summer.
