Liverpool Steps Up Chase For Birthday Boy Osimhen

Premier League champions-in-waiting Liverpool have stepped up their interest in signing Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen according to media reports in England.

English newspaper Express reports that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp who had long kept tabs on the player recently ordered detailed scouting reports on Osimhen as the Anfield side weighs up a move for the red hot Nigerian striker.

It is understood that Klopp has identified the player who turned 21-years old today as the ideal addition to his forward line having been priced out of a move for PSG French forward Kylian Mbappe.

Interest in the in-demand Nigerian striker who has scored 13 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side so far this season and four goals in nine appearances for the Super Eagles has intensified with several Premier League sides jostling for his signature as the winter transfer approaches.

It is understood Lille will resist any attempts to prise their prized possession away from France in January.

Lille accept that it is only a matter of time before they will be forced to cash in on Osimhen but would like to keep him at the Stade Pierre Mauroy until the summer.

Osimhen was similarly in hot demand in the summer following his 20-goal season with Belgian side Charleroi, on loan from Wolfsburg, last season but Lille eventually saw off teeming competition to win the battle for his signature in July after they sold Pepe to Arsenal.

The player who was named Ligue 1 Player of the Month in October is under contract for another four-and-a-half years having penned a five-year deal when he joined.

His goals have lifted Lille to fourth in the Ligue 1 table, 14 points off league leaders Paris Saint-Germain having played one more game.

Osimhen who is currently in Nigeria on holidays with the French League on a winter break could return to Lille when they resume in January or could just become the latest Nigerian to rock up at Anfield after former Super Eagles winger Victor Moses.
