Ligue 1 Review: Monaco Strengthen UCL Spot Despite Rennes Draw

French champions AS Monaco have strengthened their grip on a UEFA Champions League (UCL) spot despite playing out a 1-1 draw with Stade Rennes in a rescheduled league game on Wednesday evening.

In-form Monaco forward Rony Lopes struck on 29 minutes for his 11th league goal of the season to cancel out Joris Gnagnon’s opener for Stade Rennes as both sides cancelled each other out.

The draw was enough to strengthen Monaco’s hold on second spot with 67 points though they are 16 points off league leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) while their opponents Rennes (46 points) are up by one spot from 6th to 5th spot.
