Kenya have won this year’s edition of the African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta State.
The East Africans fended off the challenges of immediate past champions South Africa and hosts Nigeria to win the Athletics Championship at the end of Day 5.
Kenyan athletes were stranded in Lagos just before the start of the championship and came close to withdrawing from Asaba 2018 but they recovered from those setbacks to win the competition.
They finished first with eleven gold, six silver and two bronze medals (19 medals) ahead of second-placed South Africa with nine gold, thirteen silver and eight bronze medals (30 medals); third-placed Nigeria with nine gold, five silver and five bronze medals (19 medals); fourth-placed Morocco with two gold, three silver and four bronze medals (9 medals); and fifth-placed Ethiopia with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals (8 medals).
