Ighalo To Miss AFCON Qualifier Against South Africa

Super Eagles fearfully await the magnitude of Odion Ighalo’s hamstring injury after he was taken off on a stretcher in Wednesday’s Chinese Super League clash.

Having played just 17 minutes in Changchun Yatai’s clash with Tianjin Quanjian, the striker was taken off the pitch after a knock.

Ighalo left the stadium in pains, coupled with fears that he might face a long time on the sidelines, which would be a huge blow to the Super Eagles in their quest to defeat South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier slated for November 17 at the FNB Stadium.

The 29-year old has been instrumental in the three-time African champion’s aspiration of returning to the biennial football showpiece having missed the last two instalments.

Ighalo scored six goals in his last three matches for the Eagles, with the last two earning him a feature in the FIFA Ultimate Team of the Week, and has been tipped to cause problems for Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg.

With Francis Uzoho already ruled out of the showdown, Ighalo’s absence will cause Gernot Rohr to look for other options on the bench.
