ICC U19 Cricket World Cup: Nigeria Lose To Sri Lanka In Plate Quarterfinal

Nigeria’s U19 Cricket team also known as the Junior Yellow Greens lost yet again at the ongoing ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa as they were beaten by 233 runs by Sri Lanka in the Plate Quarter-final on Monday.

Both sides failed to progress from their various groups to qualify for the Super League stage and were thus relegated to the Plate Group which will determine the final standings for teams that failed to qualify from their groups.

Sri Lanka lost to India and New Zealand in Group A before defeating Japan Under-19s to set up a game against the Nigerian youngsters.

Nigeria, on the other hand, couldn’t match the quality of the oppositions in Group B as they lost all their three matches against Australia, West Indies and England by big margins.

Sri Lanka were favourites to win the match against Nigeria who were making their debut in the competition and made their superiority count at the Ibbies Oval in Potchefstroom with a comprehensive 233 runs victory.

The Junior Yellow Greens will play the loser of the tie between Canada and Zimbabwe in the Plate playoff semifinal while Sri Lanka await the winner of the tie in the Plate Semifinal.
