GERNOT ROHR: Match Against Uganda Not A Friendly

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has given assurance that players who didn’t have the opportunity to play during the AFCON qualifying series will get a chance to showcase what they have to offer the team in their match against Uganda at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday, November 20, 2108.

Speaking to busybuddiesng.com, he said: “Tomorrow we will see some players who did not play, like [Samuel] Chukwueze, [Victor] Osimhen, and other [new] players who are coming in, including [Mikel] Agu, the midfielder, and we will also the goalkeepers

“These kinds of matches are tests and [we] must give opportunities to players to show what they can deliver in the national team.”

Rohr will look to see the capabilities of the players that haven’t featured for Nigeria recently but have been called up especially the new ones like Samuel Chukwueze who has been a regular for Villareal.

Meanwhile, the goalkeeper’s spot is still keenly contested after constant feature Francis Uzoho picked up an injury a week before the match against South Africa.

Uzoho’s absence has given the Franco-German the opportunity to assess what he has on the bench by stating that the friendly will feature two goalkeepers, each playing 45 minutes each.

The coach also disclosed that Ajayi and Brian Idowu who didn’t feature in the game against Bafana Bafana will start the game, affirming that although the Super Eagles have already qualified for the 2019 AFCON, the game will not just be a friendly but a “preparation game”.
