Gabriel Okechukwu Strike Sends Eagles Into CHAN 2018 Semis

Substitute Gabriel Okechukwu scored in the first half of extra time to hand the home-based Super Eagles a 2-1 win over Angola in their quarter-final clash to send the team into the last four at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

After a goalless first half, Vladimir Va gave the Angolans the lead with ten second half minutes and that was how it stayed until the previously wasteful Anthony Okpotu popped up in added time to level proceedings for Nigeria thereby taking the game into extra time.

With fourteen minutes of extra time gone, Gabriel Okechukwu, who had come on as a replacement for Sunday Faleye in the 59th minute, weaved his way past his markers before unleashing an unstoppable low shot into the back of the net to give his side the lead for the first time.

Nigeria thereafter held on to that advantage with the calming influence of the impressive goalkeeper and captain Ikechukwu Ezenwa to seal a last four meeting with Sudan.

Sudan had earlier stunned Zambia 1-0 in their clash on Saturday evening to secure a place in the last four.
