Former Super Eagles B Star Okechukwu Moves To Japan

Former Super Eagles B striker Gabriel Okechukwu has joined Japanese topflight side Consadole Sapporo.

The Water FC of Abuja product signed a 4-year deal worth $2m with Consa.

The 25-year-old teamed up with Consa from Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, whom he joined in 2018 from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Akwa United.

The former Olympic Eagles forward says the move to Japan is a step forward in his career, adding that he is eager to start playing for the J1 side.

“For me, it’s a big privilege to come play in Japan where the style of football is very different from that of Morocco,” he said. “But one thing is sure, I will do my best to put smiles on the faces of the fans and the club.

“I do not take this opportunity for granted, as I’m here to make my mark and keep the Nigerian flag always flying”.

Okechukwu netted twice as the Super Eagles B reached the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco, where they lost to the hosts.

He also scored the decisive spot kick as Akwa United defeated Niger Tornadoes 3-2 via penalties to claim the 2017 AITEO Cup in Lagos.
