Euro Round-Up: Mikel Assists Stoke Win, Uduokhai Scores, Awoniyi Debuts

John Mikel Obi grabbed his first assist in the Championship this season to help Stoke claim their first three points of the campaign with a narrow 1-0 win againt 10-man Preston North End.

The former Super Eagles captain who joined the Potters on a one year deal this summer, teed up Lee Gregory to score the game’s only goal in the 39th minute to condemn the home side to defeat.

In the English upper tier, Nigeria-eligible Eberechi Eze started his first league game for Crystal Palace and was on for 75 minutes as the Eagles succumbed to Alexander Iwobi’s Everton at at Selhurst Park.

A Dominic Calvert-Lewin strike and a penalty from Richarlison either side of Cheikhou Kouyate’s header gave Everton a third win on the bounce with Iwobi coming on for the final five minutes.

In Germany, soon-to-be Nigeria international Felix Uduokhai scored his first of the season and ensured a clean sheet as early pacesetters Augsburg stunned Borussia Dortmund in a Bundesliga encounter.

The giant centre-back put Augsburg ahead five minutes before the interval before Daniel Caliguiri added a second nine minutes after the interval to hand the visitors their first loss of the season.

Elsewhere, Nigeria U23 star Taiwo Awoniyi made his league debut for new club Union Berlin as they claimed a creditable draw at Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Awoniyi, on loan at Union Berlin from Liverpool, was on for 57 minutes before being replaced by Max Kruse as goals from Marcus Thuram and Nick Schlotterberg ensured both sides shared the spoils.
