Darlington Emmanuel Igwekali: Nigerian Defender Joins UAE Club Ajman

Nigerian defender Darlington Emmanuel Igwekali has penned a four-year deal with UAE topflight side Ajman Club.

The 20-year-old who had previously played for Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine and Turkish side Alanyaspor signed for Ajman after impressing in trials.

Speaking after sealing the transfer, Darlington said he believes the move will help catapult him to the highest levels of football.

He said: ”I believe signing with Ajman Club will help me in developing my game to reach the highest level of football”. 

His father and agent, Reginald Emmanuel Igwekali a former footballer for Chinese club Beijing Fortune FC revealed that Darlington’s impressive performances during his trial drew the interests of a number of clubs with the player having to turn down several offers to sign for Ajman.

“Three teams showed interest in having Darlington but Ajman club were the best suitors looking at the plan and vision they have for Darlington,” he said.

“He will do very well in the team, the coach was very impressed with his performance during the trials and looks forward to working with him.”

Darlington could be making his first appearance in Ajman colours in a friendly match this week in preparation for the 2020-21 season.
