CAF CL: Ilechukwu Confident of MFM Passage Despite Slim MC Alger Win (AUDIO)

Technical Adviser of debutants, MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu has expressed confidence in his side’s chances of advancing to the lucrative group stage of the 2018 CAF Champions League after their narrow 2-1 win against Algerian side Mouloudia Club D’Alger (MC Alger) in the first leg of their first round tie on Wednesday.

Goals from Chjioke Akuneto and Monsuru Bashiru helped the Nigeria Professional Football League runners-up to a slim 2-1 win against MC Alger at the Agege Township stadium, setting up of a potentially difficult second leg against the North Africans who thrashed Otoho FC of Congo 9-0 at home in the last round of the competition.

In an exclusive chat with www.busybuddiesng.com after the match, Ilechukwu called for proper planning ahead of the reverse fixture, but warned against writing the Olukoya Boys off.

“It was a great game, we thank God for the victory,” he said.

“But we threw away a lot of chances. We could have buried that game with 4, 5 goals, but it could not happen.

“Going forward, we have to plan, going to training, we need to plan. We have to find solution (ahead of the second leg).

“People are writing us off that it is not possible, but we can still qualify for the group stage. It is 100% possible, it is 50-50. That is the truth,” an optimistic Ilechukwu stated.

The second leg comes up on 17 March in Algiers with aggregate winners advancing to the lucrative group phase of the competition.
