Angels Progress as Delta Queens Oust Bayelsa Queens in Women’s FA Cup Quarterfinals

Rivers Angels, Ibom Angels, and Delta Queens all secured spots in the semifinals of the women’s FA cup after grabbing victory in the quarterfinals played yesterday.

In Abakaliki center, Ibom Angels squared up against Confluence Queens of Lokoja.

The Orange Ladies were too strong for their counterparts as goals from Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna and new addition Koku Damilola proved just enough for Coach Morufu Adeyemo’s wards. The victory means that the two-time finalists would have just one more hurdle to cross before the final.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Peace Effih, and Ibinabo Georgewill scored in the space of two minutes to give defending champions Rivers Angels a perfect two goal lead over Sunshine Queens and a place in the semifinals.

Delta Queens also secured the third semi-final spot with a 3-1 win over Bayelsa Queens on penalties. Saheed Adebisi’s early goal in the third minute put Bayelsa Queens ahead but the Asaba-based team grabbed an important equaliser to ensure both sides were at par after regulation time. It was down to the lottery of penalties, where Delta Queens proved superior.

The final quarterfinal fixture will take place today Monday in Lokoja as Nasarawa Amazons lock horns against Edo Queens at 4pm.
