Tennis legend Roger Federer has booked his place in the Wimbledon Open final after he defeated Czech 11th seed Thomas Berdych in straIght sets.

Federer, 35, saw off Berdych 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to move within one win of an eighth Wimbledon title.

The Swiss star would be hoping to win a first title since 2012 when he takes on Marin Cilic in what would be his 11th Wimbledon Open final. Seventh seed Cilic had earlier qualified for the last two after he got the better of American 24th seed Sam Querrey 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-5.

Speaking after his triumph, Federer said: “I feel very privileged to be in another final,”

“I’ve got the pleasure to play on Centre Court another time. I can’t believe it’s almost true again. I’m happy to have a day off to reflect on what I’ve done at the tournament.” he added.

With the win, ageless Federer becomes the second-oldest man to reach the Wimbledon Open final after 39-year-old Ken Rosewall played in the 1974 final. Federer also sealed a record 29th Grand Slam final.
