Ikouwem Udoh Targets Permanent Spot With Super Eagles (AUDIO)

New Super Eagles invitee Ikouwem Udoh has described his first-ever invitation to the main squad of the Super Eagles as “a privilege” and “a dream come true”.

Nineteen year old Udoh was named to the Super Eagles squad as a late replacement for the injured Samuel Kalu by national team boss Gernot Rohr for the Eagles’ final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Seychelles on the 22nd of March at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba and also for the friendly against Egypt four days later at the same venue.

The Enyimba left back who was part of the home-based Super Eagles squad to the CHAN in 2018 told busybuddiesng.com that he would seize the opportunity afforded him by Rohr to make “Nigerians proud”.

“I’m so excited,” Udoh told busybuddiesng.com about getting a first-ever call up to the Super Eagles main squad.

“It’s a very big privilege for me as a player, it’s also a dream come true for me. It’s something I’ve been dreaming for all this while so I thank God today that I have gotten the opportunity to be there.

“When preparation meets opportunity success always come, this is an opportunity for me to go and make myself, fans and Nigerians proud and I believe God will see me through.”

Udoh’s call up is in some respects a concession to many observers of the domestic league who have always acclaimed him the country’s best left-back. Having made the left-back berth at Enyimba where he came through the ranks and also at U20 level where he is captain of the Flying Eagles and was named as a starter in the team of the tournament at the recently concluded 2019 U20 AFCON in Niamey, Niger, Udoh says he will rely on the qualities that have served him well in his career to stake a claim for the left-back position in the Super Eagles.

“I believe football is all about determination, focus, concentration [and] dedication and I think with all these [I can make the left-back slot mine] with God’s help.”
