2019/2020 Kickoff For NWFL Premiership Postponed

The kick-off date for the 2019/2020 NWFL Premiership has been moved to 25 March according to a statement from organisers, the Nigeria Women Football League.

The women’s topflight had been due to resume for the new season on Wednesday 18 March.

But the NWFL said it was “constrained” to suspend the resumption of the league by one week following the ” refusal of some clubs to submit evidence of payment of player wages and completion of the comprehensive medical reports”.

The offending clubs include Ibom Angels, Pelican Stars FC, FC Robo Queens, Dream Stars Ladies FC, Heartland Queens and Royal Stars FC.

Others include Adamawa Queens FC, Confluence Queens, Abia Angels, Osun Babes FC and Delta Queens.

The postponement the statement said, would afford the affected clubs enough time to comply with the registration requirements.

The competition was previously known as the Nigeria Women’s Premier League but was recently rebranded to the NWFL Premiership.

Rivers Angels are defending champions after they triumphed at the championship-deciding Super 4 held in Lagos last year.
