WRESTLING: Sports Minister Backs Governor Wike National, African Championships In Port Harcourt

Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, has expressed satisfaction with Port Harcourt’s readiness to host the forth-coming Governor Nyesom Wike National Wrestling Championships as well as the 2018 Africa Senior Wrestling Championships slated for February.

Barrister Dalung made his known during a meeting with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of both tournaments in Abuja on Thursday. The LOC met with the Sports Minister to brief him on the level of preparedness of the Garden City ahead of the Championships.

Expressing his satisfaction with the level of work done by the LOC, Dalung equally commended the Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike for agreeing to sponsor both events.

 

 

Speaking during the meeting, the Minister pledged the full support of the Ministry of Sports, while assuring that both tournaments will get the backing of the Federal Government.

Barrister Dalung also promised to attend the opening ceremony of the Governor Wike championships, stating that he will also use the opportunity to inspect the facilities and meet with the security committee.

The Governor Nyesom Wike National Wrestling Championships is slated for 23rd to 30th November, 2017 while the Africa Senior Wrestling Championships-the first to be hosted in Nigeria-has been scheduled to run from 7th to 11th February, 2018.

Both events will be staged at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Alfred Diette-Spiff Civic Center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
