Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki has booked her place in the Australian Open semi-final after he survived a second set scare against Carla Suarez Navarro thereby forging ahead in her quest for a first Grand Slam title.
The second seed saw off her Spanish opponent 6-0 6-7 6-2 to setup a last four meeting with Elise Mertens of Belgium.
Mertens had earlier beaten Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-4 6-0 in their quarter-final clash.
On her victory, Wozniacki said: “I knew it wasn’t going to be that easy.”
“A lot of games in the first set were quite close, but I was proud that I managed to stay cool. She [Suarez Navarro] improved in the second set and made me step back to the baseline. I stepped a bit closer to the baseline in the third set and I feel had a little more energy in the end.” she added.
On her semi-final opponent, the Dane said: “she’s had an amazing start to the year. It’s gonna be a tough one.”
