Football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pelé, has explained why an African team has never won the World Cup.

The three-time World Cup winner is well respected and regarded by many as the greatest footballer ever.

He had earlier predicted that an African team will win the FIFA World Cup before the 20th century.

Speaking on why his prediction has not been a reality via RT, he said: ”I said so, because it’s amazing how many talented Africans are playing around the world, but when the time comes for national teams, then problems begin.”

”It’s hard to say why so, because there is no special reason for that.

”Africans play leading roles in all positions, with the exception of goalkeepers. And the teams do not show themselves that way.” he concluded.

An African country is yet to reach the semifinal stage at the World Cup and the latest representativea namely Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal will be hoping to change that when hostilities begin at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.[tps_header][/tps_header]
