Women’s AITEO Cup Quarter-Finals Preview

This year’s Women’s AITEO Cup quarter-finals does not get any bigger than the match between Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons as they go head to head at the Nembe City Stadium on Wednesday before Saturday’s second leg encounter in Lafia which would confirm who advances to the last four.

At the weekend, red-hot Bayelsa Queens sliced through Sunshine Queens with ease in their Round of 16 replay as they beat their visitors 5-1 in Nembe with Macleans Okogbe scoring four. The first match in Akure had ended in a goalless draw.

Nasarawa Amazons, on the other hand, did not need a replay to dispatch Beautiful Tours in Abuja as they unleashed ten un-replied goals on the amateur side last Wednesday.

Due to their impressive performance in the regular season of the Nigeria Women Premier League, both Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons will be participating in the Super Four Championship scheduled for next month.

Hence their dream of a double is still alive. This would be their first meeting this year – they were in different groups in the NWPL.

Meanwhile, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, defending champions Rivers Angels will tackle Edo Queens and the Jewel of Rivers are already outright favourites.

Elsewhere in Umuahia, Abia Angels will play host to Confluence Queens of Lokoja while Ibom Angels take on Pelican Stars in Uyo.

All matches would be decided on Wednesday 20 September with the return leg scheduled for Saturday 23 September 2017.
