Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has stated that the team will approach their opening game at the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia like a cup final.
Nigeria will play Croatia in their Group D opener at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Kaliningrad on Saturday night.
Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi was speaking with reporters on Friday ahead of the game with Croatia.
The Tianjin Teda star said: “I don’t want to talk about any player but it will be a game of 11 versus 11.”
“We are going to play the game like a cup final because we want to win our first match in the tournament. It’s very important to win the first match and we want achieve that, we want to start well.” He added.
Mikel and his teammates will also play Iceland and former world champions Argentina in Group D.
