Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has disclosed that the team is contented with the tag of underdogs and that it will provide the team with enough motivation to prove critics wrong.

Mikel Obi and his teammates have come in for a lot of criticisms after a run of four games without victory.

The Tianjin Teda FC of China midfielder was speaking about the team in a video interview with Al Jazeera.

In his words, the former Chelsea star said: “We like where we’ve been placed. We don’t want to be one of the favourites.”

“I think this will give the team enough motivation to prove critics wrong that we can actually do better that they actually feel.” he added.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn with Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D.

Head coach Gernot Rohr and his players will start their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Saturday.
