Defending champion, D’Tigers of Nigeria began their Afrobasket title defense with a narrow 78-77 victory over fellow West African nation, Côte d’Ivoire in Tunis, Tunisia on Friday.

Team captain, Ike Diogu was in unstoppable form as he provided 31 points and 8 rebounds to ensure Nigeria survived Côte d’Ivoire’s second half fight back.

Ike Iroegbu also scored 15 points and 7 assists.

Washington Wizards center, Daniel Ochefu did not make his Afrobasket debut as he was not seen with the team.
