Victor Osimhen Stars As Napoli Put Six Past Genoa

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was at his marauding best upfront for Napoli as they demolished Genoa 6-0 in Serie A at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday.

The 21-year-old led the line superbly, lasting the entire ninety minutes and bagged an assist as Gennaro Gattuso’s side won their second straight game in the league.

All that was missing was a goal to mark an excellent day’s work from the club record signing but on the strength of his  showing against Genoa, it is only a matter of time before Osimhen breaks his duck for Napoli.

A game that featured just one goal in the first half from Hirving Lozano, burst into life after the interval as Napoli let lose and opened up the goals tap.

Osimhen who had already forced an excellent save from Genoa’s goalie Federico Marcheti in the first half turned provider after the interval setting up Piotr Zielinski to double Napoli’s lead just a minute after the restart.

Zielinski set up Dries Mertens for number three in the 57th minute before Mertens did the same for Lozano to complete his brace in the 65th minute.

Eljif Elmas and Matteo Politano added two more for the home side as they recorded their biggest win of the season.

Osimhen might not have got on the score sheet, but he still managed to get into the referee’s notebook as he bagged a caution just before full time.

Elsewhere, Simy Nwankwo was on for the entirety of the encounter but was helpless to stop newly-promoted Crotone from falling at home to AC Milan.

A Frank Kessie penalty and a goal from Brahim Diaz either side of half time handed the visitors a second win on the bounce while Crotone are still without a win since climbing to the topflight.
