Red-hot Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his blistering form in front of goal with an assist and a sixth league goal for Lille who moved into third in the Ligue 1 table with a 2-0 victory over Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Last season’s runners-up Lille have now won all four of their home league games this term and sit two points adrift of leaders Paris Saint-Germain who suffered a shock loss at Reims.

20-year-old Victor Osimhen who has been in irresistible form for the French side since his summer move from Belgian club Sporting Charleroi put Christophe Galtier’s Lille into a 43rd-minute lead at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy by lashing home after some slack Strasbourg defending to net his sixth goal in seven games this season.

The three points were secured 19 minutes into the second half as Osimhen turned provider for former Chelsea and Marseille forward Loic Remy to slide in his first goal of the campaign.

Osimhen now scored in all four home games for Lille in Ligue 1 this season.

The U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner becomes the first Lille player in over half a century to boast such an impressive start and moves joint top of the goal scorer chart alongside Lyon’s Moussa Dembele with six goals.

Lille are next in action at the Allianz Riviera where they take on Nice on Saturday before a trip to England for Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Chelsea at Stanford Bridge.
