Title challengers Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at Valencia in their opening league game of the season at the Mestalla on Monday night.

Argentine forward Angel Correa gave the Rojiblancos a first half lead only for Spanish international striker Rodrigo to level matters for the hosts on 56 minutes.

Atletico Madrid’s quest for a winning goal was foiled by Valencia for the remainder of the game as they held on for a well earned point.

In the other La Liga game on Monday, Iker Munian scored on the stroke of full-time to give Athletic Bilbao a 2-1 victory over Leganes at the new San Mames.
