Uzoho Aims To Make Case For Eagles Number One Shirt (AUDIO)

Francis Uzoho aims to make the most of his second start since 2019 when he mans the post for Nigeria in their second friendly clash with Cameroon later on Tuesday.

Three-time African champions Nigeria will aim to avenge last Friday’s 1-0 loss to the Indomitable Lions at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in the Austrian capital but face an uphill task with severe personnel shortages.

An already depleted squad was further decimated by injuries to William Troost-Ekong and Jamilu Collins forcing boss Gernot Rohr to announce wholescale changes for the second leg.

Part of the changes will see Uzoho start for the Super Eagles for only the second time since he picked up a long-term injury against Brazil in 2019.

The 22-year-old has had to work his way back into the squad following his long absence with former understudy Maduka Okoye who incidentally made his debut replacing Uzoho in the Brazil game now firmly first-choice.

With Rohr already guaranteeing him a place from the start, Uzoho who last started a game in the dead rubber 2020 AFCON qualifier against Lesotho in Lagos in March, assured of his preparedness and promised to give his best “like I always give when I get the opportunity to play”.

“If I get the opportunity to start, I’m prepared like always. I’ve been training with the team, and I’ve been training well as well. So, I think if I get the opportunity tomorrow, I will try my best,” Uzoho told NFF media following the team’s last training session on Monday.

“[Super Eagles fan] should expect my best, like I always give when I get the opportunity to play. That’s the same thing I think they should expect from me tomorrow- just my best, nothing else.”

Cameroon vs Nigeria kicks off at 4 pm Nigerian time at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt, Wiener Neustadt, Austria.
